Introduction to Dermal Fillers

As we age, we naturally lose suppleness to our skin as a result of the loss of subcutaneous fat. The muscles on our face and neck naturally lose their strength, and the skin can lose its elasticity. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle. Seeing an increase in wrinkles and sagging skin can affect our confidence, but it doesn’t have to diminish your self-esteem or lifestyle. By opting for a Dermal Filler treatment, you can give yourself a much-needed boost with a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure, and Dr. Collier Pace is ready to work with you at his Greensboro, NC practice today.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like substances that are injected under the skin and are used to address many common concerns such as smoothing out deep under-eye circles, lifting cheekbones, increasing lip volume, or rejuvenation of your hands. Composed of a variety of substances, some synthetic and some natural, the most common compound used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance naturally found in our skin and plays a major role in keeping the skin hydrated and volumized.

What are the benefits of Dermal Fillers?

There are a variety of ways Dermal Fillers in Greensboro can benefit and enhance your look. Some of these include:

  • Plump thin lips
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars
  • Reconstruct contour deformities in the face
  • Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids

Dermal fillers can show great results when used in the early stages of aging or the appearance of wrinkles.

Who are the best candidates for Dermal Fillers?

If you are starting to notice more wrinkles around your eyes, increased forehead lines, additional smile creases, and fine lines in other areas of your face, you might be a good candidate for Dermal Fillers in Greensboro. Patients who generally experience good health, don’t smoke, are committed to maintaining good skin health, and have realistic goals and expectations are the ideal candidate for Dermal Fillers. Everyone’s reasons for utilizing a Dermal Filler are personal, and it is important to discuss these with Dr. Pace.

What to expect on the day of a Dermal Filler treatment

On the day of your appointment, you will be asked to fill out paperwork before being taken into our procedure room. The treatment is administered in stages, which Dr. Pace will explain before he begins.

The first step is the facial assessment and mapping. Dr. Pace will evaluate your facial appearance and skin tone and examine the areas of your face to be augmented. Strategic points on your face may be marked as the appropriate injection sites for the filler. Photographs may be taken of the areas to be treated.

Next, your skin is cleansed and anesthetized. The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. Pain at the injection site can be tempered by the use of a very cold instrument to chill the skin, anesthetic ointment to numb the skin, or injection of local anesthesia.

The injection usually takes only a few moments per site. The process of injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result is performed, and additional filler is added as needed. Once the results are deemed satisfactory by Dr. Pace and the patient, any markings will be cleaned off. You may be offered an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort.

Dermal Filler recovery

The Dermal Filler treatment is very quick and mostly pain-free. There is no downtime needed after you receive the treatment, which means you can resume normal activities right after your appointment. It is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. Be sure to discuss your specific recovery plan with Dr. Pace before scheduling your injections.
